Welcome to the course Scientific methods in environmental engineering!

Today, mankind is facing many global challenges like climate change and plastic pollution, which can only be solved by collaboration among different key-players in several fields of science and society. This requires a trans-disciplinary dialogue where scientists from different fields have to learn each other's scientific languages and how to use specific tools. In this course you will learn about research methods in environmental engineering as well as social science to better prepare you for scientific work solving cross-disciplinary challenges, a requirement to achieve sustainable development.

Course aim

The objective of the course is to deepen the students' understanding of research methods in environmental engineering and to highlight differences in methods between natural and social sciences.

Course content

The course will mainly address the following: cross-disciplinary research methods in environmental engineering; literature search, reference management; scientific writing and presentation; critical review of the own research work and constructive feedback on others' work; research ethics.
