Welcome to the course Atmospheric pollution and air quality!

Ambient air pollution is responsible for millions of deaths every year. As societies grow, urbanize, and strive for technological advancement they often do so at the cost of the quality of the air we depend on. In this course, you will learn about common air pollutants and how they move around. You will learn about the effect that poor air quality has on the environment and on human health. You will learn some methods to monitor and assess air quality, how to control air pollution from different sources, and some basic principles for air quality management. If you want to know more about what contributes to the quality of the air around you and how to work towards improving it, this course should interest you.

Course aim

The purpose of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge of the atmosphere, air pollution and pollutants, air quality, and mitigation techniques.

Course content

The course will mainly address the following: Atmospheric composition, atmospheric pollution and pollutants, atmospheric dispersion, transport and deposition, effects on environment and health, air quality and emissions assessment, and control of emissions from motor vehicles and stationary sources, basic regulatory frameworks, and the role of air quality for sustainable development.
